12/14/12
I finally had the
opportunity to use my passport!!!!! On December 14-21, 2012 I and my best
friend went to Cancun Mexico. We stayed in Playa Del Carmen at the Mayan
Palace. The flight with Delta was surprisingly prompt and comfortable. For anyone traveling to Cancun Mexico, be
prepared for timeshare sales people, shysters and most people who pretend to be
helpful but are really wanting to sell you something.
Since I was ‘brand
new’, I was not prepared for the aggressive sales pitches; I was almost
captured by a time seller, but we got away (thanks to my friend). If you
are staying at one of the resorts, be sure to know if they provide a
shuttle...if they do, get the details on their uniform, the description of
their shuttle, and find out the times they pick up. Go STRAIGHT outside
and you should see many resort shuttle services - look for yours, make sure
they have your name and get in the shuttle.
The view during
the ride to the resort looked much like some of the less populated areas of
south Florida. Once we arrived at the resort it was like being
transported to a mini paradise - like the ones you see in magazines. The
grounds were elaborate and well maintained, palm trees, water fountains,
flowers, tropical plants and the weather was perfect - in between warm and hot
with a nice breeze. The weather was not anything I could compare to.
However, I was very tired...going through the flight, customs,
the shysters in the airport, and being dressed for winter weather I was
hungry and exhausted. But I was very excited, I was in a new country
in beautiful surroundings, traveling with someone I loved, it was perfect.
I could not wait to explore, ONLY after
I got something to eat AND get into some summer clothes. Unfortunately, we were again caught up with
someone posing as a “helper” for the resort, that turned out to be a timeshare
rep – but we got a free excursion.
